All of us have done our fair share of late night ‘cramming’ before an exam, right? Well, we’d like to introduce you to a great learning tool, and even give you a chance to nab yourself a free copy. Since elementary, most of us have seen and used flashcards. Visual repetition has been proven to be a great memorizing tool. Even toddlers can learn shapes and basic items from flashcards with little effort.

Learni Flashcards brings that potent learning tool to your iDevice, including some additional features the old fashioned laminated cards can never pull off. Foremost, Learni Flashcards learns from you, providing statistics and a more efficient experience. When viewing a flashcard from the deck, you tap and hold on the slider at the bottom of the screen to show the opposite side of the card — the answer. You adjust the slider to how likely you knew the answer, in the form of a percentage. This provides statistics that can show you how quickly and how well you’ve learned the material thus far, plus allowing the app to discontinue showing the flashcards of material you’re already confident of knowing. This way, you’re not bombarded by those items you know and ‘drilled’ more frequently by those you haven’t seemed to grasp yet.

Adam Zdara has included thirteen great sample decks to get you started: basics of German, basics of Japanese, basics of Russian, basics of Spanish, capitals of Africa, capitals of Asia, capitals of Europe, capitals of North America, capitals of Oceania, capitals of South America, Morse Code alphabet, periodic table, and U.S. Presidents. Of course, you’ll have plenty more uses and needs beyond these. It’s easy to create your own flashcard decks of any size and any material. To create a new deck, go to the Organize section, tap the plus (+) symbol in the top right, enter a name for your new deck, choose a language (if applicable), and tha go on to making the cards by entering a front and rear items and any notes for each.

You can use this tool over and over, therefore, we’ll need a few extra features, correct? Easily search through all of your decks, providing organized search results alphabetically by deck name updated instantly with each letter you type. Another great re-usability factor is being able to easily switch between the front and back of the cards when doing your studying by using a simple toggle switch at the top of each flashcard. For example, you can switch between learning the names of elements in correspondence to their symbols or vice-versa. To me, this seems like an extra bit of memorization, pushing your brain to learn the same material from a different perspective but also providing flexibility to whichever set of items you need to learn at the time.
